Question please: .32 caliber
I own several shotguns, and have loaded up there.
I own a 9mm, and 3 rifles .243, .270. and 30.06. Plenty of ammo obtained. I forgot about my wife's pistol she keeps in here car: a .32 revolver S&W long. Where do you guys recommend purchasing ammo for this pistol? I am having a really difficult time finding it in my area. Any recommendations on type or make of ammo for personal protection for this little fella? Thanks. |
Re: Question please: .32 caliber
:ok:I'm very familiar with a vintage Colt Police Positive 4" revolver in this quaint old caliber I saw once ... I've determined that this bullet below is currently the best available (defense) round for those various .32 revolvers chambering the 'long' S&W or Colt interchangeable cases:
http://www.midwayusa.com/mediasvr.dl...eitemid=735129 http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=735129 At just 778 fps I doubt it will really mushroom, but with 132 foot pounds of energy it's still meaningful to an aggressor who is surprised by one ... about like a high velocity HP 40gr 22LR maybe. I'd buy and stock a supply of ammo now (minimum 2 boxes kept away) as this cartridge is almost an antique and apt to be dropped by many manufacturers... Yet if I handloaded these carefully I could get 1,000 feet/second out of these cases with the old Colt's chamber strength easily ... the round was designed for black powder I suspect, and so top-break early guns were frail... I've heard of a new .327 Federal magnum cartridge that exceeds .38 power but is not allowed in your pistol of course. Believe it or not this was once considered a mild city police cartridge! The round is actually very accurate and was a top target caliber of it's day. Times do change, but it worked back then I guess! ENJOY! |

thank you VERY MUCH!

Re: Question please: .32 caliber
Koy, you are wealth of knowledge, well done. However, I would advise the OP to consider getting his wife a handgun chambered in a more effective and available cartridge. 132 ft/lbs cannot be considered as a real defensive round.

Koy has enlightened me about firearms more often than I can count.
